London has plenty of neighbourhoods for you to explore. And with more neighbourhoods to explore, that means more restaurants to experience. I’d like to talk about a few of them in the Battersea and Clapham areas of London. An area that is located directly next to the Thames with some of the most well-known sights a mere 20 minutes away, views that look as good as some of these prints.
The first eatery I want to talk about is ‘Donna Margherita’, located at ‘183 Lavender Hill, Clapham Junction, SW11 5TE’. To start, I am well aware that I mention an Italian restaurant in most of the posts I write, but that is only because Italian food is always a good choice that is usually pretty hard to screw up. Now with ‘Donna Margherita’, however, has been called “one of the best in London” by the London Evening Standard newspaper and “the best pizza outside Italy” with their wood fired pizzas. With it being an Italian restaurant you have all of your standards: pizzas, pastas, chicken and fish dishes which even before you’ve come to experience it for yourself you know that it is of a high quality from the reviews alone. Donna Margherita also features an extensive wine list with additional choices of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. Not only is this one of the best choices in Battersea, but it is arguably one of the best choices in the entirety of London.
A second restaurant that I’d like to talk about is ‘Gastronhome’, located at ’59 Lavender Hill, SW11 5QN’. A place that is merely down the street from ‘Donna Margherita’, Gastronhome offers a variety of French cuisine with a modern twist. This restaurant is one that is often talked about with its ever changing menu, quite often a restaurant will stick with what works in safety and not take any risks. Gastronhome keeps itself modern with a menu that changes every few months with completely different foods available. Of course, they do keep some of the restaurant favourites around, which you only need to ask about to hear. The menu, as of right now (January and February 2017) consists of such items as:
‘Le Boeuf: Beef “Pot au Feu”, Black Angus fillet poached in a clear consommé, pulled brisket and bone marrow, grilled leek and turnip”
La Saint Jacques. Pan cooked scallops, potimarron, Périgord truffles, hazelnuts and chicken jus
Le Chocolat. Chocolate soup, sweet granola bites, poached pear and Dulce ganache
Now Gastronhome doesn’t just offer these ever-changing menus, don’t worry, they do keep a lunch and daily menu that remains the same for those who don’t want to worry about their favourite going away. And finally, for Gastronhome, the art that hangs around the restaurant is all available for purchase and painted by known artists. With all the high reviews this place gets, it’s understandable why they work the way they do.
The last place that I would like to talk about today is ‘Augustine Kitchen’, located at ’63 Battersea Bridge Road, SW11 3AU’. Augustine Kitchen is a place located close to the River Thames and always serves as a local favourite. If you’re wanting to eat here, there is a good chance that you may need to make a reservation for such an experience. Augustine Kitchen is a 45-cover restaurant and has got an intimate family feel with a focus on good quality produce and wine. The producers are handpicked, to ensure the very best quality, including charcuterie from Monsieur Colliard and fish from Mouchet Anythy sur Leman, a fourth-generation fisherman. Augustine Kitchen offers, not only seasonal menus for when you want to go out to eat Christmas or New Years, but also has a set menu where you may order a two or three course meal for an amazing price for the quality. Personal picks from this menu for me would absolutely have to be the ‘Grilled Entrecote’, which is a prime cut of beef which comes with tarragon butter and expertly made chips. Not only this but the ‘Black Forest “Revisited”’ from the desert menu, which is the restaurants own unique take on the Black Forest gateau which, for me, can only be explained with one sentence: “Experience it for yourself”, with just how amazing it is.
While I’ve only found myself in this area a few times, these are the best eateries I’ve come across during my time, with Gastronhome absolutely being my personal recommendation.
